Operation Snow Storm

The spring snow goose conversation season offers waterfowlers the opportunity to hunt thousands upon thousands of snow geese migrating back north to their breeding grounds. I was able to experience a remarkable morning hunt when the snow geese returned to the field we had set up TnTs and Silosocks. For forty-five minutes, the action was nonstop for the camera and the guns. I held the camera taking photos until take em was called when I would get the Beretta and start bringing down the birds.

The early morning conditions were pretty dim so these shots are at ISO 1600 & 1000 with a max aperture of f5.6. The lense used is the Nikon 70-300mm and most shots were between 70 – 135mm as these snow geese were in tight. The last couple of shots turned out better with more light conditions allowing the shutter speed to be bumped up to where I like it for taking action shots of waterfowl.

The first four shots are from a near by marsh. I tried sneaking in trying to get really close to the birds but that didn't work. I then waited for them to come back after feeding but they came back when it was too dark. I only managed a few shots that I kept from that afternoon.
